About This Course

Researchers around the globe are utilizing crowdsourcing tools to reach respondents for quantitative and qualitative research. Many social science and business journals are receiving studies that utilize crowdsourcing tools such as Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk). The purpose of this course is to provide the basic ideas behind the use of crowdsourcing for survey research, hands-on tools to start using them to collect data for survey research and provide a primer for best practices that will increase their validity and reliability.

This course has two main components: a) theory and b) hands-on session

Prof Cihan Cobanoglu

Dr. Cihan Cobanoglu is the McKibbon Endowed Chair Professor of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHRM) in the Muma College of Business at the University of South Florida (USF), who also serves as the Director of the M3 Center for Hospitality Technology and Innovation and Coordinator of International Programs for the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. He is a renowned hospitality and tourism technology expert. Dr. Cobanoglu is a Fulbright Specialist commissioned by the Fulbright Commission (2018-2021). He is a Certified Hospitality Technology Professional (CHTP) commissioned by Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals (HFTP) and Educational Institute of American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA). He is the Editor of the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology (JHTT)(Indexed in SSCI IF=2.796), editor of Journal of Global Business Insights (JGBI), Journal of Global Hospitality and Tourism (JGBI) and a co-author of six books and ten conference proceedings. He is also currently serving as the President of Association of North America Higher Education International (ANAHEI). He is the founder of eReviewer.org, an open-access paper management system and AcademiaCentral.org, a portal for educators around the world.

Dr. Gozde Turktarhan

She is a visiting research scholar at University of South Florida MUMA College of Business M3 Center Technology and Innovation for the Hospitality. She graduated as an honor student. After working at many hotels during her undergraduate education, she continued her career in the academy. Her master thesis has been awarded The Best Master Thesis in 2014. She completed her doctorate degree in the area of destination marketing. After completing her doctorate degree in 2019, she came to University of South Florida for her post doctorate researches by the support of Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. Her research interests are in the areas of destination marketing, smart destinations and tourism technologies. She serves as assistant editor of the Journal of Global Business Insights. She is an active member of International Federation for IT and Travel and Tourism (IFITT), Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP), American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) and Association of North America Higher Education International (ANAHEI). Also, she is a volunteer for Humane Society of Sarasota County Animal Shelter and recording audio books for blind and low-vision people.
